Sign Up Sheet to Offer Your Will

(This is a rough, rough draft)
In my church, a clipboard is oftentimes passed around during Sunday school for members to sign up to volunteer for specific tasks related to service.  I thought about how this relates to offering our will up to God almost in the same way.

If we can be assured that the place we are in will be stayed because of God's will, then we can accept where we are currently, knowing its where he needs us right now.  Nothing is more difficult than being "on assignment" in an emotional, spiritual or physical space that we don't really want to be.  What possibly could this particular unwanted destination serve in the life of others or myself? What is it that God hopes I can discover while I'm on errand here? What does He have in mind for me?

Isn't submission like the sign up sheet that gets passed around in church, to show up, ready to help? Being willing to go where God needs us to go is sacred ground. Each day, by trusting God's will, I'm basically signing up for an assortment of tasks: Trust God, Be patient, Keep praying and loving despite fast returns. Assignments are varied. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes.

Staying right where we are is sometimes the hardest assignment. To just wait it out and work hard until He reveals otherwise tests the noblest of God's followers. Why wait on the Lord? Has he not delivered me when my well being and safety, happiness depended on it? Has he not been most timely when my most important needs were at risk? He has preserved me always. Always. He has the perfect formula for our ever changing needs. Submitting our will to His will frees up the space so He can use us in the capacity He deems right. Can we get out of His way just enough so He has our permission to intervene how and with who we need him to intervene? As well as where and when He finds pertinent and necessary to intervene?

For some, like myself, bending one's will can feel similar to trying to bend a crowbar with our bare hands. We want what we want, when we want it. Now! Please, let Him get His hands on your life. To reflect His precision, His perfect creation. To finally have His image reflected in our countenance as we surrender to his timing. What better gift can there be received??? I can't think of obtaining a more prized possession or reaching a more sought for place.  Sacred ground our lives become when we can truly surrender.
